Given the normal amount of miles I put behind me each day when I am driving it is a little odd that I watched the sun come up this morning sitting on my back porch in Arizona and here I am watching the sunset and the end of the day come on from my hotel room in Santa Fe New Mexico. It seems like I would have gone farther than that today.
The sun broke over the mountains this morning and everything seemed to come alive at the same instant. The birds swooped in to the feeders The Road Runner came barreling around the corner after god knows what and stopped in front of me to talk for a few seconds. Then off he went again after some morsel. I really wish I knew what he was saying to me when he does that. It has become a daily thing now when I am home. He talks I listen he leaves. I am sure there is some great joke I am missing.
The neighbor’s dog came up the hill to say good morning and try to get some of my coffee. He took a look at the Road Runner thought about giving chase then decided that a good ear scratching was a better option. He and the Road Runner have a history. He tries to catch him once in awhile the Road Runner lets him get close then does one of those 100mph 90 degree turns and stops dead in his tracks and watches the dog go flying past. It all reminds me of a bull fight in many ways. When he turns and the dog blows by you can’t help but say “Olay”
With the first cup of coffee gone and the dog happy with his rubbings he gave the Road Runner another glance then wandered back down the hill. Road Runner stopped back by for a second carrying a little something hanging out of his beak and off he went back around the corner. The old red dog decided it was time to get up and dragged his old tired body outside just to greet the morning with me. Road Runner I think knows that he is way too old to be of any fun for him so he just ignores him now. I think the old red dog is a little offended by that.
So there me and old red dog sat, the sky exploding in colors of reds, greens and purple’s on a great blue canvas. My second cup of coffee steaming away the birds flinging seed everywhere and Road Runner came back out to watch the sights with us. Neighbor’s dog was contentedly heading down the hill toward home making a couple of stops along the way tail wagging head high taking in the scents of a new day and the new life it brings to everything.
Be well and be kind.
